Yorkshire's Oldest Brewery
Drawing water from the original well sunk 85 feet underground in 1758, here at the Old Brewery in Tadcaster we are proud to retain traditional Yorkshire methods of brewing.
With the exception of draught Sovereign and Extra Stout, all Samuel Smith's ales & stouts are fermented in 'stone Yorkshire squares' (fermenting vessels made of solid slate slabs). We also have used the same strain of yeast since the 19th Century to give a fuller bodied taste. All of our beers are brewed using only natural ingredients, we do not use chemical additives, raw material adjuncts, artificial sweeteners, colourings, flavourings or preservatives.
